By Joe Regan The FDA approved Vioxx in 1999. It was intended to reduce the pain and inflammation caused by osteoarthritis as well as menstrual pains. Afterwards, the FDA approved Vioxx for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. The drug, which is a once-daily pill, was considered more effective than traditional pain killers and to cause fewer gastrointestinal side effects. What is Vioxx? Vioxx is a COX-2 selective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Vioxx is also related to the nonselective NSAIDs , such as ibuprofen and naproxen. Vioxx is a prescription medicine used to relieve signs and symptoms of arthritis, acute pain in adults, and painful menstrual cycles. Minor side effects with the use of Vioxx include upset stomach, dizziness, heartburn, vomiting and constipation. In March, 2002 an FDA report linked Vioxx to five cases of a nonbacterial type of meningitis. In May 2002, a report published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research stated that it may also impede bone repair due to the arthritis drug inhibiting cox-2 (which assists bone-forming cells in the healing process.) The makers of Vioxx launched a three year study to confirm the relative gastrointestinal benefits of Vioxx when compared to another pain medicine, naproxen. The study did show that patients who took Vioxx had fewer ulcers and other stomach ailments, but the shock of the study proved to be the greater tendency to experience serious cardiovascular events when taking Vioxx. In September 2004, Merck & Co., Inc., announced a voluntary withdrawal of Vioxx from the market due to safety concerns of an increased risk of cardiovascular problems such as heart attack, stroke, and blood clot. The study found that both high and low levels of the medication increase the risk, but patients taking the highest doses increase their risk of heart attack more than three-fold. In Vioxx and naproxen test groups with more than 4,000 patients in each, Vioxx users suffered 101 serious cardiovascular events and 20 myocardial infarctions. That compared to 46 naproxen users who had cardiovascular events and only four who suffered heart attacks. Patton If you have, or are considering implementing, a church website or online ministry, there are several steps you can take to help ensure that your site is found, across all major search engines, by those who are looking for it. Effective search-engine ranking, for church websites, is fairly straight forward if you follow some basic rules. Despite all the hoopla about search-engine ranking strategies, the end result is that search engines rank your site based on what your site actually represents, and the amount of concurrence of that representation from other sites on the web via links to your site. While that may seem complicated, it’s really not. Simply put, search engines want to see content relevant to what your site claims to be about, and that other outside sites concur with that assessment by linking back to you. Here are 12 proven steps for getting your church website indexed and optimized for favorable search-engine ranking for a specific key phrase. Onsite (code and content of your church website) Optimization: 1) Make sure your key phrase appears in the title tag of your page. The title tag displays the page title that appears at the top of the browser when visiting a page. This can be easily overlooked as it is not a part of the content body itself. 2) While some search engines no longer take the keyword and description meta tags into account, there are still some that do. It’s responsible design practice to populate these tags. Found in the HTML code, they are located in the same general area as the title tag, so checking them at the same time is convenient and fast. Make sure that your key phrase(s) appears in the title, as one of the meta tag keywords, and part of the meta-tag description for that page. 3) Make sure that your key phrase appears as close to the top of your actual content as possible, and preferably formatted as Heading 1. If this is not possible, make sure it appears as soon as possible after the beginning, and format it differently (larger, more prominently) than surrounding text. 4) Naturally disperse your key phrase throughout the content. There is no hard and fast rule other than don’t overdo it. Search engine spiders love real content, but they don’t like keyword stuffing. In a normal page you should naturally have several mentions of that key phrase throughout the content without even trying. 5) If you have images on your page, it can be helpful to use the alt tag for these images for key-phrase inclusion. Do this, but do it sparingly, again, avoiding unnatural- appearing keyword stuffing. 6) Finally, your key phrase should also appear as close to the last words on the page as possible. (Hint: a copyright notice is ideal for this) Offsite (sites other than your own) Optimization: Even more important than the “onsite” techniques, are the other sites that link to yours. This part is critical and, while it takes a little effort, the payoff, in terms of search-engine ranking, is enormous. Most of the major search engines place great value on similar or related sites linking back to yours, and the specific, linked words used to do so. Here are the rules for effective linking: 7) Proactively look for link partners that have sites similar in theme to your own. This does not mean that it has to be another church website, but make sure there is some common ground between the two. For instance, your church could link to a bookseller, provided that booksellers focus is books related to your beliefs, denomination, etc. The more closely related to your site the link partner is, the better, though even distantly related is better than none. Look for opportunities for one-way links to your site from similarly themed sites. This is the highest value link, one where a site like yours links to you, without you linking back. They carry far greater search-engine value and should be treated like gold when you can get them. 9) Make certain that the anchor text (or linked text) to your site, on their site, is the actual key phrase for which you want to rank well. Repeat that key phrase in the description area if the linking site allows for it. 10) Be aware of the Google page rank of the site with which you are link exchanging. The higher their page rank, the more their link to you is worth. Treat any link with a page rank of four, or higher, as valuable; it is. 11) Don’t link to sites that are not somehow related to yours. This not only carries little value, it can potentially damage your rankings because unrelated site links appear artificial to search-engine spiders. 12) Sparingly provide outbound one-way links; avoid them altogether, if possible. Outbound one-way links benefit the outside site, but not your own. You at least want a link exchange. The reason being is because this inner knowing has direct access to harness the infinite powers of the universe to produce results. Some people call this your higher self, your God presence within, your inner CEO, your innate wisdom and a host of other things. The main idea here is there is a power in the universe that created you and everything else. And when you get this power on your side in creating what you want, it becomes easy and almost effortless. The inner knowing is your connection to this power and is like the non-conscious mind in how it just takes orders and does as it is told. Then it begins harnesing the powers of the universe to help you fulfill that request. Now I am about to share with you an amazing tip that will exponentially speed up the results of everything I have shared with you in the previous lessons. You ready? You can tell your inner knowing what to listen to and what not to listen to. For example: I told my inner knowing that when ever I pause and say “I AM” or “Inner Knowing” whatever is immediately followed by those words are what I want you to pay attention to. All my other thoughts, ideas, pictures, words, etc you can ignore. In this way I do not have to spend months and years training my thoughts to only be solely focused on what I want before I start seeing results. Then use this signal to let your inner knowing know what you want help with. When You do this, you will skyrocket your results in any area of your life you ask your inner knowing for help with. Well there is one catch with that. You inner knowing processes your requests through the “filter” of your purpose. Whatever you and your inner knowing have created your life purpose to be (irregardless of whether you did it consciously or not). If your requests are inline with fulfilling your life purpose, you are golden and will achieve results with minimal effort. If your requests are not inline with your life purpose, all the struggle, effort and work you can imagine will not produce lasting results. You and your inner knowing create your purpose. And for most people, they did it unconsciously. Which means that if you want something different, you can now create a new purpose consciously. Your inner knowing has absolute “Veto” power over your new purpose. Which means if you create one your inner knowing doesn’t like, it won’t accept it. Communication with your Inner knowing is a two way street. When you put in a request for a new purpose, if you pay attention you will get a signal, sign, awareness or some form of knowing if the new purpose was approved or not. You can even ask for a sign so big, you will know beyond any shadow of a doubt if the new purpose was granted approval. If not, you can ask if the idea needs to be changed, parts of it need to be changed, if there is something you need to learn or know for it to be accepted, if it is a conditional acceptance or if you have to scrap the purpose all together and go in a completely different direction. Little hint, making money will almost never be part of your purpose. But guess what, if you are making money in a way that is fulfilling on your purpose, you can make as much of it as you want. Often when someone’s purpose is getting in the way of being thin and healthy, it is only because there is something to learn or be aware of and your inner knowing is using your extra weight as a way to make sure you get what it is trying to tell you.
